10 Clean Beauty Dupes For Conventional Products

When I first started my clean beauty journey I was seriously bummed about having to start over from scratch on my entire makeup routine. I had only been trying to find the best products since I was, I don't know, 13 years old...no big deal. Psh. It's not like I scoured Sephoras on the weekend like it was my job or hung on every word of Youtube beauty influencers or saved every little penny from my part time job in order to buy, what I considered, must have makeup. Nah.

JUST KIDDING. I totally did those things and it was frustrating that I had found products that I loved and now had to part ways with in the name of health and wellness. So, I made it my mission from the very get-go of this clean beauty thing to try and find products that worked just as well as, if not better, than my old conventional favorites. And guess what? I totally have...at least on most accounts!

Even better, I've been able to find some exact or near-exact dupes for some of my old favorite products and I'm sharing them with you today!

If you liked…The Too Face Chocolate Bronzer
Then you’ll like…The Han Skin Care Cosmetics Bronzer

I used to be a Too Faced kinda girl back before all of this clean beauty business. I loved their kitschy packaging, every beauty blogger I followed raved about them, Better Than Sex Mascara (need I even say more?), and their cosmetics smelled so freaking good. I mean, who doesn’t want a peach or peanut butter scented eyeshadow palette? Even better, who doesn’t bronzer that smells like chocolate? Sign me up!

Honestly? I cringe thinking about how artificially scented some of those products were now…not to mention the Too Faced Bronzer contains ingredients like Talc. No, thank you.

I came across this dupe on accident. I was looking for an affordable clean bronzer and ordered this one rather blindly because it was $16 and I had tried Han products that I loved. I was delighted to find that this felt like an exact dupe for my old Too Faced fave! It smells like cocoa (!!), it’s matte, and gives the perfect amount of smooth matte warmth to the face!

If you liked…Anastasia Dip Brow
Then you’ll like…Plume Nourish and Define Brow Pomade

Anastasia Dip Brow is a cult favorite and for good reason…it sculpts and carves out brows like no one’s business. The brow trend was gaining major steam around the time I was getting out of the conventional beauty game and I was feeling discouraged because I couldn’t find the perfect brow product replacement. After about a year or two into making the clean beauty switch, Plume launched their brow pomade and there’s been no looking back.

I’ve tried pencils and swipe through gels, but nothing beats this brow pomade in my opinion. I also truly love the angled brush and spoolie it comes with! It makes achieving everything from natural to editorial brows super easy!

If you liked…The Becca Backlight Priming Filter
Then you’ll love…Graydon’s Face Glow

If you’re the girl who loves glow, listen up! This one is for you. When Jaclyn Hill came out with her Champagne Pop collection with Becca, I was absolutely hooked! I thought Becca was the authority on all things highlighter and I loved everything they came out with. I bought powders and palettes and fantasized about glow drops. So, when Jaclyn Hill started mentioning their Backlight Priming Filter, I knew I had to try it. I used sample after sample of this priming serum that I would mix in with my foundation to give it serious dewy glow. It was stunning.

However, I had to break up with Becca once I made the switch to clean! BUT, rest assured, I never forgot about that dewy primer that I mixed time after time into my foundation. So, when I came across a sample of Graydon’s Face Glow, I was stopped dead in my tracks. Let me be straight - this isn’t an exact dupe color or formula-wise. However, it is a dupe when I think about the finish and feel it achieves. Both products are meant to be worn under or with foundation, both give the skin a dewy/radiant finish, and both are stunning. Becca’s is more like a true primer whereas Graydon’s is more of a tinted moisturizer. If you love a dewy finish, I cannot recommend Graydon’s Face Glow enough!

If you liked…Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick
Then you’ll love…Honest Beauty Liquid Lipstick

Okay, okay…don’t come for me. I know there are some serious Kylie Liquid Lip ride-or-dies out there, but just hear me out on this one! A good matte, long-lasting, liquid lip is hard to find around here in the clean beauty space. Don’t ask me why, it just is. So, the Honest Beauty Liquid Lipsticks are some of the closest I’ve found that give off your traditional liquid lip experiences.

Kylie’s liquid lippies will stay put allllllll day long no matter what and have a bit of a dry formula that cracks as it wears off (that was just my experience, don’t hate me!). I would say the Honest Beauty liquid lippies stay on for a few hours (definitely not all day or through super rigorous activities like eating), wear off naturally, and have a bit more of a plushy texture. Both lipstick formulas are a thin consistency and matte after drying down. The Honest Beauty lipsticks take a little bit longer to dry down. Color-wise, Kylie Cosmetics has more options, but Honest Beauty has tried and true staples you’ll wear forever (nudes, pinks, mauves, berries, and reds!).

If you liked…The Tarte Creaseless Concealer
Then you’ll love…Fitglow Concealer

I know Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer is all the hype and one is sold like every 17 seconds or something crazy like that, but back before Shape Tape reigned king, there was my personal holy grail concealer, Tarte’s Creaseless Concealer. I’ve bought so many tubes in my lifetime that you might’ve thought I had a stake in the company at one point. It was creamy, full coverage, and there were a ton of shades, so finding my match was easy. I wore this all through high school and most of college.

As I side-stepped into adulthood, I tried out other concealers and eventually swapped to cleaner products. However, the second I tried the Fitglow Concealer, which is honestly a green beauty cult favorite, I knew it was an exact dupe for an old favorite! It’s creamy, the coverage is divine, and it wears well all day. It feels super nourishing and budge-proof when set. I genuinely love this concealer! The color range could be improved and I absolutely loathe the small wand, but a little goes a long way (which is great because this concealer is the price of a foundation!).

If you liked…Buxom Lip Glosses
Then you’ll love…PYT Plumping Lip Glosses

I’m going to set the mood here and maybe date myself, but the year is somewhere between 2004 and 2006. Laguna Beach is must see TV and your style icon is some weird mix of Lauren Conrad and Hillary Duff. Low rise bootcut jeans are all the rage and out of your logo embossed purse you pull out your Juicy Couture Perfume and your Buxom Plumping Lipgloss. You apply a few glossy coats and feel more “adult” than ever as the gentle sting “plumps” your nonexistent lips into a kissable pout your crush just couldn’t resist.

Haha! Uh…who else can relate? Buxom lipglosses were some of the first high end lip products my mother ever let me try, right alongside her Lancomè Juicy Tubes. Plumping lip products were all the rage and the limit did not exist for the amount of sparkles that was socially acceptable to put in any given tube of gloss. I continued to use these for a long while, thinking they were the epitome of class and cool, until I eventually moved on to greener pastures and plumping lipglosses kinda went out of style there for a minute.

In fact, I had almost forgot about them entirely until I tried the PYT Plumping Lipglosses which had rave reviews. I tried the shade “Horoscope” which has fun, microfine glitter, that I promise isn’t gritty at all. It has a very glassy feel and the smell, texture, and overall effect brought my back to a time in my life where Buxom was at the height of popularity. If you love Buxom glosses, plumping glosses, or just a really good standard issue gloss with a nice, not-too-sticky formula…you’ve got to check these out.

If you liked…Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb Highlighter
Then you’ll love…Aether Beauty Supernova Crushed Diamond Highlighter

Fenty Beauty, though a brand I don’t personally use, is not a brand that is hard to ignore. They splashed onto the scene with an all-inclusive shade range of cosmetics and a unique, on-trend product selection that makes beauty gurus (and even clean beauty gurus!) turn their heads! I keep up with traditional beauty as best as I can and when the Fenty Diamond Bomb Highlighter hit shelves, it became widely loved and talked about. It has a unique formula and a glittery texture that will have all your disco ball dreams coming true. To be fair, I’ve only ever swatched this product, but quickly noted that it was not the product for me. The glitter was a bit too much for my personal, everyday use.

However, if you’re a serious Fenty Diamond Bomb lover you have to try the Aether Beauty Supernove Crushed Diamond Highlighter. I’ve only ever swatched it, too, but it reminded me so strongly of the Fenty one I couldn’t help but take note! They’re both glittery, buildable, and showstopping. The Aether Beauty one comes in the 3 unique colors. I would say “Diamond Dust” is the closest match color-wise to Fenty’s. Also, Aether Beauty is formulated and owned by a former Sephora Product Developer! The quality and payoff are insane on these!

If you like…It’s a 10 Leave-In Conditioner
Then you’ll love…Evolvh Leave In Conditioner

Can I be candid here for a sec? I don’t really put a lot of effort into my hair. If you know me IRL, then this is not something that’s surprising! For someone who is so into fashion and beauty, you’d think that would also translate to hair, right?! My favorite hair product is leave-in conditioner. It’s the perfect “lazy” way to achieve gorgeous hair with minimal effort. I love misting it into damp hair, setting it, and then forgetting it as I sleep. It kinda feels like magic when you wake up to soft, pretty hair! and ever since switching from my old favorite, It’s a 10 brand, I’d been hard-pressed to find a cleaner alternative that I loved just as much.

BUT, in stepped Evolvh! Evolvh, I feel like, has raised some brows in the clean beauty industry over their SmartScent technology and honestly their products aren’t my favorite scent-wise. Still, I feel like they give clean an honest shot and is a great alternative if you’re looking to switch to something a little cleaner. Their leave-in conditioner is magical. I get the softest hair and it works just as well as my old fave, It’s a 10!

If you liked…NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
Then you’ll love…100% Pure Lip Caramel

Guys! I was giddy with excitement when I made the connection between the 100% Pure Lip Caramels and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams! Once upon a time, I was a drugstore beauty QUEEN and after discovering NYX, I thought I’d hit the royal jackpot. The products were affordable, professional, and artistry based. Their Soft Matte Lip Creams were and still are a liquid lip staple for many! It’s a liquid lip formula that is soft, velvety, and plushy on the lips before drying down into a long lasting matte finish.

Fast forward many years later and upon trying the 100% Pure Lip Caramels I’m instantly transported back to my drugstore days with one swipe of a lip wand. The formula is an almost exact dupe in texture and feel. The color ranges are even similar! They both apply like velvet and then dry down to a matte finish. However, they differ on smell, wands, and longevity. The NYX lippies are much more long lasting, while the 100% Pure ones smell like delicious caramel and have maybe one of the best doe foot applicators I’ve ever seen - wine, but pointed at the end.

If you liked…Literally Any Traditional Toothpaste
Then you’ll love…David’s Toothpaste

I know that’s kind of a sweeping statement, but I totally stand by it! I’ve tried a lot of “clean” toothpastes over the past few years, with heavily mixed results. The first natural toothpaste I tried, I absolutely hated. So, I’ll be the first one to admit that this can be a tricky category to make the switch in!

If you like your standard Crest and Colgate variety of toothpastes like I once did, I feel like you’d love David’s. David’s toothpaste is the most like a conventional toothpaste I’ve found in the clean beauty space and I’ve loved using it. It has a minty fresh feeling, comes in high quality recyclable packaging (with a metal key to help you get the most out of your tube!) , is made in America, and rates a “1” on the EWG toxicity scale! Oh, and did I mention it whitens teeth while being vegan, fluoride-free, sulfate-free and leaping bunny certified?
